Flashpoint Releases Ransomware Prediction Model for Vulnerabilities
Flashpoint claims to now offer an industry-first ransomware prediction model that allows vulnerability management teams to improve remediation efforts that could prevent cyber extortion events with VulnDB, the most comprehensive vulnerability database available on the market. They say that VulnDB covers over 300,000 known vulnerabilities found in end-user software and third-party libraries and dependencies, including over 96,000 vulnerabilities missed by CVE and NVD.

Mobile Attacks up Double Digits from 2021
With the proliferation of mobile devices and hybrid work environments where employees often use their personal devices for work-related activities, almost half (45%) of respondents of the Verizon Mobile Security Index 2022 said their organizations were subject to a security incident involving a mobile device that led to data loss, downtime or other negative outcome—a 22% increase over 2021’s numbers. Of those respondents, 73% said the impact of the attack was “major” and 42% said that it had lasting repercussions. In 2021, less than half of incidents were described as major and just 28% were said to have had lasting repercussions, the report said.

New York Fed Tests Wholesale CBDC for Cross-Border Payments
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has developed a wholesale CBDC prototype for an experiment on cross-border digital currency transactions supported by blockchain technology. The first phase of the project simulated a foreign exchange spot trade and introduced a wholesale CBDC prototype to test whether using blockchain technology could improve speed, cost, and access to cross-border wholesale payments. The experiment found that payments could be settled in under 15 seconds and that the simulated ledger network enabled atomic settlement, meaning both sides of the transactions were settled either simultaneously or not at all - slashing risks.
