Bank tech-trends News September 25 - 29, 2006
Hardware NewsSonicWall has expanded its line of continuous data protection (CDP) appliances. Clients choose their own folders to backup, but the administrator can add or delete folders for users and watch over the entire backup file pool using the included administration software. Since the files are stored on the appliance's hard disk, searching for a file across all the backups uses a single search field to find the file no matter which user's computer it came from. Optionally, SonicWall sells offsite backup services. The 1440i starts at $1,999, the 2440i at $2,999, the 3440i at $4,999 and the 4440i at $7,999 (higher prices support more users). Software Updates Avocent has introduced a new product line to allow PDA users to remotely manage Windows servers. SonicAdmin QR and SonicAdmin Pro come with different levels of features and functions, and run on a BlackBerry or any Windows Mobile 5-based device. Users of SonicAdmin QR can access servers by using their Active Directory profile and can view server statistics, shut down and reboot servers, view event logs, view and manage processes, manage user accounts, and run quick commands. Annual renewable licenses are $99 per user for SonicAdmin QR and $399 per user for SonicAdmin PRO. Privacy Eraser Pro erases temp files, document histories and other "histories," as well as securely cleaning out the Recycle Bin. The firm claims that it exceeds the US Department of Defense and NSA clearing and sanitizing standard, to give you confidence that once files are deleted, the file data is gone forever and can not be recovered. Privacy Eraser Pro costs $39.95. IS Decisions announced FileAudit 3.0, a file and folder access surveillance solution, which helps you in one click, determine who accessed sensitive data at what time and from what computer. FileAudit's new GUI lets you take advantage of the product either from its own console or via Windows Explorer. FileAudit lets you display access history in printable reports that can be scheduled to run automatically and schedule automatic archiving of the access events occurring on one or more systems. FileAudit is licensed per system and pricing starts at $125 per system.
